A Day of Heights and Hoots: Visiting Ketchikan, Alaska aboard the Disney Wonder

Our day unfolded like a storybook, with the first chapter taking us high into the clouds on a Disney Cruise Line Port Adventure. The Exclusive Misty Fjords National Monument by Private Seaplane port adventure promised a unique perspective on Alaska's wilderness, and we were eager to soar into the skies aboard our private magic carpet – a seaplane! Once we returned to solid ground, our day was far from over, as we made our way to the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show – Disney style! Nestled in a rustic outdoor arena, the show showcased the incredible skills of Alaskan lumberjacks, and a few surprise guests.

Soaring Above Misty Fjords

As our private seaplane soared through the Alaskan air, we were treated to panoramic views of granite cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and lush forests. We loved Ketchikan's coastal beauty beneath, but our youngest adventurer faced a challenge: being too small to peer out of the side windows. We solved the problem by switching seats after landing in a serene fjord. It was great to see the fjords from a new perspective while sitting on the plane's floats. We dipped feet, inhaled the piney air and listened to birdcalls break the silence. At the end of our flight, each of the kids was awarded an "Alaska Bush Plane Certificates" as a token of their soaring achievement.

A Disney Twist on the Alaskan Spirit: The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show

Next, we headed to a uniquely Disney take on Alaskan entertainment – the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show. This high energy show is presented in a rustic outdoor arena close to the ship.

Lumberjacks showcased their skills, from axe-throwing to log-rolling. The competition was fierce, and our family found ourselves cheering for our favorite lumberjack champions. During the finale, Disney characters joined the action, infusing the show with a little bit of pixie dust.

Our kids insisted we wait in line after the show to meet the lumberjacks and grab a photo. Sometimes the "touristy" stuff really delivers!

If you've read our other Alaska posts you know we also headed out on hikes and glaciers. Our day in Ketchikan was the perhaps not the most adventurous of our Alaska port stops, but it was not less fun. We had a very special day just as we did in each Alaskan port the Disney Wonder brought us to.
