Our day in Dubrovnik, Croatia, was nothing short of spectacular—a perfect blend of history, adventure, and culture as part of our Adventures by Disney Adriatic Expedition Cruise. Starting early was key, especially when touring the Old Town and the iconic city walls. With the morning light casting a golden glow over the stone streets and the Adriatic shimmering below, this was the best time to explore. Not only was it cooler, but we also beat the crowds, allowing for an uninterrupted, serene experience on the walls, which are famously devoid of shade.
After a delicious breakfast, the real adventure began: a thrilling day of island-hopping by speedboat! With only eight passengers per boat, it felt personal and intimate. Our first stop was the Modra Spilja Cave, an intriguing cave with glowing blue water reminiscent of the Blue Grotto in Capri. Next, we sped over to Koločep Island where the turquoise waters beckoned us for swimming, snorkeling and some cliff jumping which our teens loved.
Lunch was a highlight, featuring authentic local cuisine at Bindo Garden, hidden among the trees on a cliff overlooking the sea, that gave us a real taste of Croatian flavors. Afterward, we soaked up the sun at Šunj Beach a sandy escape where time seemed to slow down, perfect for unwinding.
As the sun set, we were treated to something truly magical—cocktails and hors d'oeuvres accompanied by the gentle melodies of local musicians, setting the mood for an evening of cultural immersion. We were ushered into a beautiful theater for a private performance of traditional Croatian Klapa (a cappella singing) and Lindo (folk dance). The performers, dressed in striking traditional Dalmatian attire, transported us through time with their soulful music and intricate dance routines. It was a deep dive into the heart of Croatia's cultural heritage. In addition to the beauty of the performance we were also struck by the beauty of the theater itself. My daughter and I enjoyed this private performance from a lovely box perched above the stage.
Before heading back to the ship for dinner, we took another stroll through Old Town Dubrovnik its medieval walls now softly lit, and its streets brought to life by an outdoor concert, offering a completely different ambiance than earlier that morning. It was the perfect way to cap off a jam-packed adventure.
For those looking for alternative experiences, other options included sea kayaking around St. Peter’s Island, a panoramic boat cruise, or a visit to Dubelj Farm, or wine tasting and a trip to the historic Ljuta Mill. On board, those who opted for a quieter day enjoyed French pastries at a Parisian tea time, while the evening entertainment featured a fun round of "Name That Tune" and live music.
This day in Dubrovnik was a fantastic example of how Adventures by Disney curates unique, immersive experiences that offer a perfect mix of action, relaxation, and cultural discovery. For anyone looking to explore this breathtaking part of the world, this is an itinerary not to be missed!
